About the Independent Doctors Forum

The Independent Doctors' Forum (IDF) was conceived in 1988 as a group to provide a meeting place and represent the views of those doctors in active practice who did not hold an NHS (National Health Service) post. The IDF is now open to members in part-time as well as full time practice, following the revision of the constitution in 1999. It seeks to show the best face of independent practice to the public, and to encourage private practitioners to be proud of their status and optimise their effectiveness as clinicians and providers of medical services. The IDF operates at many levels: these include Education, Quality and Audit, Appraisal and Revalidation, Political, Social and Networking. The strength of the IDF lies in its members, mainly London based doctors with a significant interest in independent practice. The IDF organises and manages activities through an elected Chairman and Council.
