PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS – BREASTS
Breast Cancer is usually suspected when a painless lump is discovered in the breast gland. With mammography every 2 years (in women over the age of 45) 90% of cancers can be detected before a lump can be palpated. Women have a one in 12 chance of getting breast cancer. Major risk factors include being over 40, a previous breast cancer, and a family link. The majority of women under 64 with breast cancer are still alive after five years. Early detection offers the best chance of a cure. There is nearly a 100 percent cure rate for tumours less than 1cm. Treatment involves surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and drug treatment. Regular mammograms are recommended for women over 45.
